Far too long ago (like a month ago or more!), I was nominated by littlewicksy for a Blogger Recognition Award, and it is high time to pay that favor forward! That nomination made me feel really happy and I can’t believe that I didn’t jump right up and share that feeling with more people! I was just nominated for another award and suddenly realized that a huge amount of time had passed without repaying the first favor! There’s no way I’m letting this first one sit any longer.
There are a few rules:
- Write a post explaining why you started blogging along with a few tips.
- Nominate some of your fellow bloggers.
- Comment on their blogs to let them know you’ve nominated them.
That’s it! So here goes…
- Why I started blogging plus tips
I started blogging a long time ago as a way to document my move from Minnesota to London to attend culinary school. All good intentions about how I was going to faithfully document my progress from total novice to trained professional fell away when I realized that in order to be any kind of good, I would be spending every waking hour working and focusing on work and would come home too exhausted to breathe and too wired to focus.
That blog quickly fizzled and died.
Years later, after working in and running kitchens and finally deciding to strike out on my own, I decided that a blog would be a great addition to the professional cooking that I’m doing. I have a lot of tips and ideas and I thought it might be fun to share them!
This blog is still pretty new, so I’m still figuring out my tips, but here goes.
Number one, write because you want to write! Write about what interests you! If you don’t want to write about food and come up with recipes, don’t do that! If, on the other hand, you do want to write about something, then write about it! Nothing feels better than waking up every day and doing something that you truly enjoy doing.
My other big tip is, once you decide that you want to blog and you like it and you want to take it seriously, switch to a self-hosted site. The minute I did that, I started to be able to do cool stuff with plugins and now have a much better ability to control my site and use it and analyze it however I choose. This was actually a major game-changer for me.
- Blogs and bloggers to nominate!
